Egadi Islands Trip

Two days of adventure and fishing are to be expected for this Egadi Island Trip, one by boat and another one from the shore, plus a river scouting within the Sicilian mangroves.

The group was made of Angela and Paul, together with Jack, Johnny and Joseph. The latter (average age 12.6) gave a clever demonstration of their bright fishing techniques, especially shore fishing for predators, despite it being their first time fishing in the Mediterranean Sea.
This adventure in Sicily started off with an expedition within the Sicilian mangroves, looking for eels, crabs and endemic trout.

Within the equipment : river shoes, wetsuits, and a specific type of backpacks (Rapala waterproof backpack) given by Shimano Italy fishing were also included and necessary in order to carry out this activity.

Day 1:

The Egadi Islands Trip began with the arrival in the archipelago, followed by a welcoming dinner cooked by Samuela (Guide assistant), in classic Sicilian style. Soon after that a briefing was held and visit to Favignana’s “Tonnara”, (previously called also Florio’s tuna working plant), was arranged for the guests to appreciate the marvellous history of the “Tonno Rosso”; Bluefin tuna fishing technique.

Day 2:

The following day started off in the best possible way, catching nine Mediterranean Barracudas from a rocky cliff with lures and light equipment Shimano/G-Loomis also given us by Shimano Italy Fishing. The mood was cheerful and we had fun on the rocks while “catching and releasing”.

We also enjoyed an abundant breakfast with local sweets specialties, after which we headed back to the exploration part of the trip, that is an ancient Roman maze! We also did some snorkeling in this beautiful marine reserve (the largest in Europe). During our search for the octopus it was possible to enjoy the extraordinary underwater sea life.

Casting before sunset resulted in catching an Amberjack and a 3Kgs Mediterranean Barracuda.  Paul hooked those fish casting hard baits off the rocks on the last fishing session of this Egadi Islands Trip.

The day ended on a tasty note – we savored some pizza in the historic center of the island.
